Unit Guidelines
All Units must have a set of Guidelines which are signed by all members – Leaders as well as Guides. We all have a responsibility to help each other to keep our guidelines.
Everything we do in Guides is underpinned by the Promise, so whether we have made it as a Leader, as a Guide, or are working towards making it, this is what we begin with:The Guide Promise
I promise that I will do my best;
to love my God,
to serve the Queen and my country,
to help other people
and to keep the Guide Law.
The Guide Law.
A Guide is honest, reliable and can be trusted.
- This means, not only that we tell the truth, but that we can be relied on to bring things we need to meetings (G-files, materials for Go For It!s etc), and can be trusted to do the things we say we will do.
A Guide is helpful and uses her time and abilities wisely.
- This means that we will do what we are asked without arguing or mucking around. In the long run, time wasted is less time for fun. Also, mobile phones are a distraction – don’t bring them.
A Guide faces challenge and learns from her experiences.
- This means that everyone is expected to join in with the activities – no going out of the hall unless you’ve checked with the duty leader. Everyone has input to the programme.
A Guide is a good friend and a sister to all Guides.
- This means that we all treat each other as we would like them to treat us, and respect their opinions.
A Guide is polite and considerate.
- This means saying “please” and “thank you”, but also listening when others are speaking, and waiting our turn.
A Guide respects all living things and takes care of the world around her.
The Guide Uniform
Our uniform is a symbol of the high standards of behaviour that we set ourselves. This means wearing correct uniform to meetings unless otherwise agreed: Guide top; plain, dark trousers; trainers at meetings; school type shoes at church parade; scarf if you’ve made your promise.
